"The Grapes of Wrath" By John Steinbeck This book is about a man named Tom Joad parolled out of prison for man slaughter, restricting him to live in Oklahoma, but breaks parole and embarks on a journey with his family, and a preacher west in hope for a new life. On the journey Tom finds finds many other families such as his own traveling West to find a better living, but upon arriving to their destination they find that there is little hope for that. The jobs are few, and the work force many, with no descent paying jobs due to greedy corporations. In retaliation the working people resort to joining unions, but it only results in Tom's friend the preacher being killed, causing Tom to kill again and flee once more from the law.
